Our Patron

Anna-Hugh Fraser-1 Best (2)

A passionate supporter of Lapwing’s aims, Hugh has been actively involved in a number of projects with our students, from filmmaking and voice-overs to volunteering as a learning mentor and driver. “I am proud to be the first patron of Lapwing – it’s a fantastic organisation, well-balanced, vibrant, forward-looking and doing a great job for its students.”

Hugh is best known for playing Captain Hastings in the television series Agatha Christie’s Poirot and as the Duke of Wellington in Sharpe. Other TV work has included Edge of Darkness, Edward and Mrs Simpson and Alan Bennett’s The Insurance Man. His film credits include Patriot Games, The Draughtman’s Contract, 101 Dalmatians, Clint Eastwood’s Firefox and The Man in the Iron Mask.

Our Board of Trustees

Lapwing is both a charity and a company limited by guarantee and has a Board of Trustees responsible for guiding the direction and development of the organisation.   Our Trustees come from a range of backgrounds, both private and public sector, and have a range of professional expertise.

  • Lynne Dobney, Communications Consultant Director (Chair of Trustees)
  • Joanne Palfrey, DipM ACIM, Brand & Community Senior Manager at Ipswich Building Society
  • Lawrence Chapman, Headteacher of Priory School, an ‘outstanding’ special academy
  • Kate Miller, Barrister at East Anglian Chambers
  • Sophy Jones, Chief Executive Officer, Lapwing

Why not consider joining us as a Trustee?

The role is a valuable one to us as an organisation and a rewarding one to our Trustees.  Completely voluntary (although out-of-pocket expenses may be claimed) it carries with it responsibilities to make serious decisions regarding Lapwing’s future and the future of the students we work with. The role requires commitment, generosity, a strong personal affinity with our work and the dedication to make a difference. The Board meets in Ipswich once every two months for half a day and individual Trustees also support our work in a variety of other ways according to their time and skills such as training, attending events and committee work.

The Board of Trustees looks for new members with the skills and experience to complement and enrich our existing team.  Fundraising, marketing, commercial operations and business growth are key areas as we move forward to the next stage in Lapwing’s development. Potential Trustees are invited to contact Sophy Jones Chief Executive of Lapwing for an initial discussion.
