E4L & Lapwing Student Success

Filed in Uncategorized by on May 1, 2012 2 Comments

Bryony has been with Lapwing since July 2011. In September 2011 we met a very shy Bryony who was very reluctant to come out of her house. However, gradually over a period of time, Donna and I encouraged Bryony to come out for a walk with her dog Rosie and her mum (as she refused to go anywhere without her). Over time we built trust and Bryony agreed to come to a cafe in East Bergholt where Bryony chose a cake and drink.

Since then Bryony has come on in leaps and bounds. She has worked really hard at improving her communication skills and also life skills.

At the Chantry Park Project Bryony attends two days a week where she cooks lunches for up to 10 people on a Wednesday morning then horticulture in the afternoon. On Thursday’s Bryony participates in horticulture all day covering many interesting tasks like potting up plants and sowing seeds, digging over the walled garden and growing flowers and produce. She is a an active member of the team.

Whilst working at Chantry Bryony agreed to work toward an E4L (Employability for Life) Award and produce a portfolio demonstrating her progress. She has worked hard at collecting evidence and reflecting on her achievements.

I took her portfolio (the first one for Lapwing) for an E4L moderation meeting yesterday (30.4.12) and I had put her forward for a Bronze Award. After being moderated, Bryony was actually awarded a Silver Award because her portfolio measured her progress over a period of time. This is a huge achievement for Bryony – the first Lapwing student to achieve an award!

These images show Bryony in December 2011 when she refused to have her hair tied up or wear an apron and generally not very happy.

To date this is Bryony following full PPE rules and very content in her role as chief cook!
