Lapwing Graduate Update

Filed in Uncategorized by on December 6, 2011 6 Comments

We have some positive feedback about a recent Lapwing Graduate: Freddy

Freddy completed his individual learning programme with Lapwing in 2011 and here is what his tutor, Simon from Noise Solution had to say about his progress:

“˜Noise Solution met Freddy about a year ago, our first impressions were of a young man who had a passion for music but was unable to realise his ambitions and a young man that struggled enormously with not being in control of his environment and changes in routine. Our early sessions were full of ups and downs as Freddy struggled to cope with a creative process that didn’t have any certainties inherent in it. As our work progressed and he came to have a greater understanding of both his playing abilities and his understanding of the studio we began to witness a blooming in his self confidence that was wonderful to see.

Freddy was engaged in doing a Silver Arts Award – a level 2 qualification that is pitched at the same level as a GCSE – a daunting task for someone whose health had meant that he’d struggled massively with mainstream education. He rose to the challenge magnificently and came up with the most amazing project to fulfill the requirements of the qualification.

Freddy’s idea was to recreate tracks from different era’s and to learn about and use the limitations of those era’s to record those tracks. This meant doing a 50’s track – playing everything live with no overdubs and recording straight to a tape reel to reel recorder. What made this more amazing was Freddy learning the piano to such a high degree that he could carry off a one take performance and even more impressively for Freddy stepping up to the mic and singing for the first time as well.

The project was blogged weekly as it was progressing, the blog being used as evidence for the moderators at the Arts Award Moderation Board. Freddy’s high quality project was recognized and the feedback from the Board classed the work that Freddy and Noise Solution had done as “˜Exemplary’. Simon Noise Solution

Freddy’s News

Freddy found his time with Lapwing very useful and he is grateful to have been on a Lapwing programme as this provided him with access to a wealth of resources as well as being involved in exciting projects; working with Noise Solution, Ipswich Community Radio, CSV Media. Freddy completed studies in Literacy and Numeracy and liked working from Brightspaces with his tutor.

More importantly Freddy says he made new friendship groups whilst at Lapwing and is still in touch with those friends today. Freddy believes that he would not be at Suffolk One had he not had the positive experience with Lapwing and the people he met on his journey.

Life now, Freddy is studying at Suffolk One, he has been elected Student Representative which has given news roles and responsibilities within Suffolk One and he juggles his studies with part time employment!

Freddy is positive and confident about his future!
