Cameron, a student at Otley College, has been doing his work experience at the RSPCA in Martlesham. He started this in October 2011 and will continue doing this once a week until the term ends in July 2012.

This work experience is part of the Bespoke Course he is on at Otley College, where he studies Basic Skills and Animal Care.

About the RSPCA at Martlesham

The RSPCA at Martlesham is a re-homing centre that finds homes for dogs, cats, ferrets and other small animals. They also run a Clinic to help people in receipt of benefits who are unable to afford private veterinary fees.

The RSPCA also plan and hold a series of fundraising events. They rely on this to run the centre. They also run charity shops. Did you know that it costs over £800 every day to run the RSPCA at Martlesham?

What does Cameron do here?

During his working day, Cameron cleans out, plays with and feeds all the different animals. Cameron also helps staff with laundry and making tea and coffee. Whilst he is there Cameron wears trainers and outdoor clothing suitable for the weather.

Cameron tells us that he enjoys working with all of the animals, especially the dogs as these are his favourite animal. Cameron also enjoys grooming and playing with the cats and the kittens. He has told us that he finds it easy and interesting!

Cameron is not too sure what he would like to do in the future, but thinks he would like to work in kennels. He definitely wants to keep working with animals. He hopes that his experience here and the skills he learns at Otley College will enable him to do this.

Cameron hopes to stay with Lapwing and Otley College as long as possible as he enjoys the work that he does with them.
