Lapwing wins Sheriff Award

Lapwing and Aldeburgh Music win High Sheriff Award, the Suffolk Community Partnership Award 2010.

The Media Project started in September 2009 as a result of Lapwing and Aldeburgh Music meeting and holding discussions, in particular with some of our students to explore ideas for working together on media projects.

The media project was nominated for the Suffolk Community Partnership Award as a result of the Suffolk Foundation inviting us to put in an application based on the partnership and its success and potential. The High Sheriff had been impressed by some excellent examples of partnerships working together during his year in office and he created an award to reward and celebrate the joining of groups working effectively together to make a real difference to the community.

Although there were quite a few nominations for the award, the High Sheriff had put the best three forward for the evening; we were up against stiff competition from Suffolk Constabulary and Brandon Full Gospel Church, who together tackle homelessness in Brandon and the West Suffolk SOS Bus Project Partnership. We were told we won the Award because of the way the partnerships works together effectively offering bespoke skill development packages for isolated young people with multiple complex needs and huge social barriers to discover new talents, skills, new confidence and new opportunities.
